Vagabonds, Hobos and Travel
The Spouse and I recently got rid of cable TV ... again. We routinely get disgusted with the price of cable and the extremely poor programing, get rid of it for a year or so, and then suddenly decide that we want cable again ... eternal optimists that programing has improved I guess! Anyway, the most recent decision came when we thought about paying $50/month simply to watch CNN, Animal Planet and really bad SciFi movies. Where am I going with this, you ask? Well, having gotten rid of cable we now only get one channel, CBS (no more discussion over who gets the remote, either!). And I have found one of my favorite shows that I didn't even know existed, CBS Sunday Morning.
Two weeks ago they ran a segment that, of course, totally captured me ... about modern day hobos riding the rail to the 2008 Hobo Convention ... yes, there is a Hobo Convention, in Britt, Iowa. Pretty funny, isn't it?! It has been added to my list of things I would like to see. Those who have gotten to know me know that I daydream of travelling ... constantly. Since watching the segment my imagination has been filled with backpacks, hostels, tiny campers, and blogging about my adventures. (I am too addicted to long, hot showers to go totally hobo, but it is a fun thought.) For those who share my longings, here are two links that will get you packing your bag.
Digihitch - Hitchhiking, backpacking and budget travel on the road.
My travel bug is in high-gear right now ... for various reasons, I have not been on a road trip since May when The Child and I went to Oregon with my parents. I feel like I am going to implode if I don't go somewhere ... anywhere ... preferably, outside of the state of Utah! Thankfully The Child and I will be boarding a plane in Las Vegas tomorrow, heading to eastern Tennessee to spend 10 days with my parents, and getting out-and-about in the beautiful Smokey Mountain - Appalachian area.
Looking forward to sharing it with you ...
Hey! Whoa! What!?! Las Vegas!
What time are you guys going to be catching your plane here and even as important when are you coming back and can we get together, even for just a moment?
I hope your trip is a blast and you hobo your heart out. Sounds like so much fun!

I was sort of a hobo for a summer, when my boyfriend and I hitchhiked from South Florida to southern Calif. But then I was 17 years old and in love. If I was a hobo now, I couldn't have a blog, and be in etsy!
