I finally got around to doing something I have wanted to do since moving here to Utah ... snowshoeing!!
The US Forest Service and Southern Utah University joined together to have a Winterfest yesterday to introduce people to the Deer Valley Non-Motorized Winter Recreation Area, specifically for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The weather was forecast to be pretty nasty, but it held off long enough for us to get safely up and down the mountain.
The Child and I had a great time (alas, The Spouse was unable to take part!), got a great workout, and got some good tips on what to look for when buying our own snowshoes ... which I now want for next winter. For those who are curious, it is really one of the few no-brainer winter recreation activities. It takes little specialized equipment, absolutely no athletic ability other than being able to walk and breathe at the same time, and it lets you see the world from a different perspective. Perfect for me!
I also completed an ATC for a personal trade earlier this week. I received a beautiful watercolor ATC, and sent this fabric ATC in return. The foundation is fabric that I colored/dyed a couple of years ago, embellished with stitching, beads and a feather.
Look at all that wonderful snow! Makes me jealous, a bit. I don't know if I actually want to trek around in it in snowshoes but you got some great shots!
Love the ATC!

The succulent plant with chartreuse flowers is Donkey-tail Spurge, Euphorbia myrsinites. It has long been a popular rock garden plant but in Utah is becoming an invasive exotic weed, spreading along foothills displacing native vegetation. More information at the Utah Native Plant Society Website.
