We were on the road from Croton-on-Hudson, and landing at Winter Island Park campground, in Salem, Massachusetts.
Roses:
- Clean laundry
- A good coffee shop with free wifi
- An updated blog
- A nap in an empty camper
- Going through Sleepy Hollow and seeing the Icabod/Headless Horseman statue
- Having a curious and knowledgeable child – my father said he thought that the Hudson River split when it went around Manhattan, to which The Child matter-of-factly replied, “It does. It becomes the Hudson River on one side and the East River on the other.” After a moment of speechlessness I asked how she knew that. Her response, “The Percy Jackson series.”
- Winding our way through little New England towns on Highway 1
- The feel and smell of ocean breezes … I have so missed the ocean
- Riding down Bellevue Ave. in Newport, Rhode Island, seeing the famous mansions
- Windmills randomly throughout Boston
- Bewitched statue downtown Salem, Massachusetts; Derby Street bookstore, downtown Salem; Creepy pictures at the 40 Whacks museum (Lizzie Borden)
Thorns:
- Trying to pull off or turn around to see something cool with the big truck and trailer
- Boston traffic at 4 p.m. on a Friday in the summer
- Noise and congestion of the Winter Island campground in Salem
- Driving in circles on little Salem streets trying to find a gas station that sells diesel.
