I finally completed the Blocks of Color cross-stitch and blackwork piece that I have been working on. I think it would look great paired up with fun fabric to make a bag or a pillow cover or just to put between two pieces of glass to hang. I am not particularly motivated to do any of those things, however, so I am just going to put it away until inspiration hits.
All stitches used variegated floss from various sources, stitched on hand-dyed aida cloth. It was really fun and relaxing to stitch, but I had to pay attention to the color choices of floss when working the blackwork designs. If the floss was too close to the background fabric color in a particular area it really started to do a number on my eyes ... not to mention that the stitches kind of faded away.
I also went and created a cross-stitch pattern for it, for those of you who might want to stitch up your own. It is available here.
